Meet the Georgetown Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.
We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or when you’re staring at a bent track after backing out too fast. Every person on this page lives in or around Georgetown, knows the difference between a Pflugerville wind load and a Sun City retirement community install, and answers to the same standard: done right, no arguing, we stand behind it. Carl Dutton built this company in 1984 on that idea, and the people below keep it running today.
Our People
Carl Dutton, Owner
I started Mainspring in 1984, back when Georgetown was a fraction of the size it is now. Named the company for the mainspring, the part that carries the full weight of a door - figured that was honest. Forty-two years later, I’m still answering the phone some nights, still driving out to jobs when a customer asks for me specifically. I train every technician myself through our K.E.Y.S. program: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. My left shoulder acts up when rain’s coming, which in Central Texas means I can predict storms better than the weather app. I live in Georgetown with my wife, two dogs that don’t listen, and a workshop full of parts I swear I’ll organize someday.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us eleven years, longer than some garage door companies in Williamson County have existed. He holds our highest internal certification for torsion spring systems and can diagnose a failing door by sound - the pitch of a groaning opener, the rattle of a loose bearing plate. He grew up in Jarrell, still lives there with his kids, and spends weekends coaching youth baseball. Customers in Serenada and Georgetown Village request him by name because he explains what’s broken without talking down to anyone. His truck is the neatest in the fleet, which the rest of us find mildly annoying.
Elena R., Senior Installer
Elena joined us eight years ago after running her own handyman business in Round Rock. She specializes in full door replacements, particularly the heavy insulated models that handle Georgetown’s summer heat and the occasional winter freeze. She’s factory-certified with Clopay, Amarr, and Wayne Dalton, and she’s the one we send when a job requires custom cutting or matching a historic home’s facade. Elena lives in Georgetown proper, bikes the San Gabriel River Trail when she can, and keeps a running list of every restaurant on the Square she’s tried. Her install crews finish faster than average because she measures twice in her head before pulling the tape measure once.
Darnell K., Service Coordinator
Darnell is the live voice you get when you call (737) 257-5760 at midnight on a Saturday. He’s been with us six years, knows every technician’s location and specialty in real time, and can talk a homeowner through securing a stuck door until help arrives. He grew up in Taylor, understands the spread of our territory from Liberty Hill to Hutto, and schedules to minimize drive time so you’re not waiting all afternoon. Darnell tracks our parts inventory, which means when he says we’ll have your spring or opener on the truck, it’s already loaded. He plays bass in a country band that practices too late and too loud, according to his neighbors.
Jesse P., Apprentice Technician
Jesse started with us eighteen months ago, fresh from the construction trades in Leander. He’s working through our journeyman program under Marcus, focusing first on cable and roller replacements, then advancing to spring systems once he’s proven steady. He’s already passed his safety certification for high-tension components, which we don’t rush - a garage door spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury if handled wrong. Jesse lives in Georgetown with a roommate and a project truck that runs most of the time. He asks more questions than anyone we’ve trained, which is exactly why he’ll be good at this.
One Standard, Every Job
Every person on this page works under the same written promise: the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something isn’t right, we come back. No paperwork to file, no dispute to navigate, no charge for the return. That applies whether Marcus is swapping a spring in a Georgetown garage, Elena is hanging a new door in a Sun City villa, or Jesse is replacing cables on his first solo call. Our trucks carry springs, cables, openers, and hardware for all major brands - LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Craftsman, Raynor - so most jobs finish in one visit. The flat price is stated before any work begins. No surprises on the bill. We’ve been doing it this way since 1984, and we’re not changing now.
